Sustainability nowadays is like a licence to operate in the textile and apparel industry, with an interesting aspect of this being that small and medium-level apparel manufacturers are also focussing their efforts on the same.
In Delhi-NCR, apparel manufacturers are investing in solar plants and energy-saving instruments as they are seeing a push from buyers to become more sustainable, as well as having their own concerns for the environment.
Noida-based Lord Creations has invested around US $ 41,500 (Rs. 35 lakh) in the solar plant with a capacity of 110 kW while Faridabad’s Le Mount Garments has also installed a similar plant with a capacity of 20 kW. A few more companies are investing in solar energy and their projects are in progress.
“Now we are producing almost 80 per cent energy for our consumption by our solar plant. Apart from this, wherever and whatever we can do for sustainability, we are doing. For example, our boilers are on PNG, our fans across the factory are BLDC (Brushless Direct Current) which are more efficient, durable, and energy-efficient than traditional fans,” informed, Sanjeev Kumar, Director, Lord Creations.
Working with buyers from the USA, France and Spain, Lord Creations has the capacity of one lakh pieces and specialises in womenswear.
“This is our first big step towards sustainability and going forward we will focus more on the same,” said Nitin Sabherwal of Le Mount Garments. The company is getting 40 per cent of its energy from a solar plant. Offering woven garments for men, women and kids, the company mainly focusses on the Scandinavian region.
