Across the country, many leading apparel manufacturers are making Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and looking at it as a permanent product in their product basket.
Working with many prestigious buyers across the globe, Tirupur’s Eastman Exports Global Clothing, has also received a huge order of PPE.
Alagesan S. Senior Vice President, Quality, CSR and Sustainable Textiles of the company informed, “Our factories have Government order of almost 3.5 to 4 lakh sets (over 2 styles – one zipper and the other with ties). Fabric for these is supplied from Indian mills only. Currently, we are not doing any export orders but are open to the same, as we have the infrastructure and capabilities to produce these.”
He also added that manufacturing of the PPE was not difficult for the company as they had to just go through the sample provided and explain to workers. Besides, Alagesan said that the firm is currently managing with the workforce staying in hostels as they are not able to go home due to COVID-19 lockdown.
Under the leadership of N. Chandram, CMD, of the company Eastman Exports Global Clothing is one of the most ethical and sustainable apparel export houses. Manufacturing entire range of knitted garments, the company is also producing organic garments and activewear.
While the experts believe that there will be an issue of oversupply of PPE at least after 6 to 8 months, the apparel manufacturers are of the view that since the next 6 months are very critical for business and there will be less orders of regular products, PPE production will prove to be big support for them.
