India’s leading apparel exporter Gokaldas Exports’ first-ever factory in Madhya Pradesh was recently inaugurated by the state Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and the management of the company believes that the inauguration of the highly-anticipated Phase I of the MP facility marks a new chapter for the company.
The company has a huge focus on sustainability in workers’ skill development with this project.
Phase II with an additional 80,000 square feet of production area, can also accomodate 2,000 employees. The facility is equipped to produce top-quality ladies’ and gents’ tops and has received approval for Production Linked Initiative (PLI) Part I.
Spread across a sprawling 1,00,000 square feet of production area, this well-aerated facility is designed to accommodate an impressive 2,000+ employees, providing a state-of-the-art work environment.
Siva Ganapathi, MD of the company told Apparel Resources, “The production lines are equipped with the latest energy-efficient sewing machines and the entire facility, including the outside premises, is fitted with LED lighting. This is just the start of the facility’s commitment to sustainability and eco-friendliness. The company is also evaluating the installation of rooftop solar panels to meet its energy requirements using green sources.”
The facility is also at the forefront of water management, featuring a state-of-the-art STP with a 130 KLD wastewater treatment capacity and rainwater harvesting system. This ensures that the facility operates in an environmentally responsible manner, preserving natural resources for future generations.
As per Siva, the well-being of the employees is a top priority at the MP facility, with a creche, dispensary, ambulance, and canteen facility with a 700-800 dining capacity. Clean drinking water is guaranteed thanks to the RO plant installed on-site. The company is also planning to set up a dedicated training facility for its workers, as it aims to hire around 4,000 workers in both phases combined.

To further enhance the facility’s commitment to sustainability and the environment, the company plans to develop and maintain a green belt that covers approximately 8 acres of land in and around the facility. This will provide a lush and verdant oasis for employees to enjoy during their breaks and create a healthy and harmonious work environment.
“The inauguration of Phase I of our MP facility is a major milestone showcasing our commitment to cutting-edge technology, sustainability, and employee well-being. With plans for continued growth and expansion, this facility is poised to become a model for sustainable and responsible manufacturing for years to come,” he said.
The region has a large pool of working-age individuals who are eager to enter the formal job market. Many of the women in the region already have basic sewing skills, but they need proper training on advanced machines used for bulk garment production. “The primary challenge is the lack of technical and behavioural skills required for the corporate environment, but this gap is being filled through comprehensive training programs. Early results have been positive, demonstrating the success of this approach,” he concluded.
