The Indian arm of the US-based e-commerce mammoth Amazon has hired 6,500 temporary workforces to deal with the upcoming Great Indian Sale from January 20-24, 2018.
Majority of these positions are placed at its 41 fulfilment centres, 25 sortation centres and 150 delivery stations located in metros as well as cities like Hyderabad and Bengaluru, among others, a company official was quoted as saying by a leading news agency.
Furthermore, Amazon, which has 350 service partner stations and 13 customer service sites across the country, “In view of expected higher demand during the sale season around 1,000 associates will take care of company’s customer service sites,” said Amazon India Vice President (Customer Fulfilment) Akhil Saxena.
During the January sale period, Amazon will offer a heavy discount (40 per cent to 80 per cent) of its fashion products by leading brands like Adidas.
Amazon India has been giving a tough competition to Indian e-commerce player Flipkart. Both the e-retailers emerged as clear rivals to each other in getting a place the E-tailing Leadership Index, compiled by RedSeer.
Amazon is injecting money in its Indian arm to remain ahead of its rivals. It recently made an investment of Rs. 2,900 crores in Amazon Seller Services of the total US $ 5 billion planned investment for the Indian market.
