E-commerce pioneer, Amazon has rolled out its platform in the Hindi language for its Android application and mobile websites, in a bid to tap customers outside the boundaries of metropolitans in the country.
The search and delivery option will however remain available in English only. The e-retailer is currently working on this feature and will launch more such features in the coming time.
Manish Tiwary, Vice-President (category management) at Amazon India elucidated on the launch that the retailer was targeting to make sure any of its customers can find what he or she is searching for on its marketplace, regardless of the language they speak or where they belong to. “The introduction of the Hindi language on our marketplace is a gigantic step towards bringing the next 100 million customers online,” Manish added.
Notably, the Hindi version of Amazon.in will provide the same features that are on offer on its English website. Shoppers will be able to read product description in detail, find deals and discounts, manage their Amazon account information, keep an eye on their orders and view order history in Hindi. The desktop version will be available soon.
Reportedly, Amazon is planning to introduce more local languages to its marketplace in the coming time. Working on this, it has also introduced a new category of Alexa Skills (Amazon’s virtual assistance) that will empower the customers to help Amazon’s voice assistant to learn languages such as Hindi and other Indian languages by using the ‘Cleo’ skill and educate about the Indian culture.
Although, Amazon India’s officials have said that the retailer currently doesn’t have its entire collection of products in Hindi and it has only introduced its most popular products in the secondary language.
