Walmart-owned e-commerce company Flipkart is exploring options to acquire grocery chain Namdhari’s Fresh, a news channel confirmed, citing sources.
Bengaluru’s No. 1 offline and online grocery chain Namdhari’s Fresh runs over 30 stores in the southern city. Thee buyout would help Flipkart expand its food and grocery segment, the report added.
According to one source familiar with the matter, the talks between the companies are in advance stage, and it is not clear if it would result in final deal further. On the other side, a Flipkart spokesman refused to comment on the matter.
Last year, US retail giant Walmart bought a 77 per cent stake in India’s largest online retailer Flipkart for $16 billion. The acquisition was considered as the country’s largest and the world’s biggest purchase of an ecommerce company.
Similarly, Walmart and Namdhari’s Fresh did not comment on the matter.
