Athleisure clothing and innerwear are continuously in good demand! After seeing an uptick last year, the product categories are likely to benefit this year well amidst COVID-induced lockdowns.
India’s athleisure market is estimated at Rs. 54,000 crore growing at 18-20 per cent annually.
Leading apparel giant, Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail (ABFRL)’s active athleisure and innerwear segment grew 56 per cent over the same quarter last year.
Notably, this is driven by solid e-commerce growth.

In its earnings release as per the company, “The performance was also aided by aggressive demand for the category including comfortwear and athleisure. On a full-year basis, the business recovered strongly and was ahead of last year levels, thus validating the strength of the brand Van Heusen in innerwear and athleisure categories.”
It is also pertinent to mention here that the business also expanded brand’s distribution footprint by adding over 5,500 new trade outlets during the year.
Selling innerwear and athleisure under the brand Jockey brand, Page Industries has also reported an uptick in demand in Q4, FY21. ICICI Securities, leading brokerage firm, has said Page Industries benefited from strong athleisure demand during the quarter.
