The Department of Handlooms and Textiles has convened a meeting of textile entrepreneurs in Karur on 15 October to discuss on the setting up of mini textile parks in the city.
Collector T. Anbagalan and senior officials of Department of Handlooms and Textiles will be a part of the meeting.
More on the same, V. Vijayalakshmi, Assistant Director, Handlooms and Textiles, said yesterday (6 October) that State Government has issued a fresh Government order on providing a subsidy of Rs. 2.5 crore to set up the mini textile parks.
She added that the entire objective was to motivate garment makers to set up new units and thus create more job opportunities in spinning, weaving and marketing in textile sector.
The parks should be built on at least 2 acres of land and once they come up, it would minimise overhead and transportation costs.
The Government will either bear 50 per cent cost for building basic infrastructure in the park such as constructing roads, setting up sewage treatment plants as well as training centres or will offer a maximum of Rs. 2.5 crore for each mini park.
The Department has already started receiving enquiries from many entrepreneurs on setting up these parks.
