Only 14-months-old but Sedex and Inditex approved! Sounds interesting, but Shree Sadashiv Garments, Bijaypur (500 km from Bengaluru towards North Karnataka) has this and much more to impress anyone.
Manufacturing casual and formal Shirts for men, the unit of 350 machines is spread in an area of 22, 000 sq. feet. Initially, the company added few clients who were in touch with its professionals but recently it started few buying houses and catering to various buyers of EU like Falabella and Pull and Bear. It has aggressive future plans too.
Without any prior experience, starting a new unit was quite difficult, but hiring of professionals, lot of research and hard work helped Santosh Kumar Hiremath, CEO of the company who was working as a Quality Head, HP and burnt his hand initially, achieve his dreams. He told Apparel Resource, “My uncle Vishwanath Pujari initiated this as he wants to give back to the Bijaypur city, especially employment to women. And tailoring is always the best option for women so he decided to start a garment unit.”
The company employed women who use to pick up cotton and gave them 9 months training in 2 parts.
Five months back the company got approval from Inditex as it has the vision to work with top brands and on a larger level. Looking towards the future, the company is in the process to set a sampling unit in Bengaluru and also geared up to explore the domestic market too.
“After visiting Apparel Sourcing Week (ASW), I am quite hopeful that now we will be able to work directly with few top retailers to whom we met at the seminars of the events, they were happy with our infrastructure and to connect with us. The second thing I learned from ASW that I can’t limit myself towards shirts only. We have to set up our lines in a way that tomorrow with minimum changes we can produce any products on the same setup. With the learning of ASW, we are motivated to enter in Indian domestic market and to enhance product portfolio.” – Santosh Kumar Hiremath, CEO, Shree Sadashiv Garments
“Compliance and certification proved quite fruitful for us as. After compliance our order booking gone from 30,000 to 80,000 pieces per months. Today buyers are standing in front of my factory earlier it was another way around so compliance always helps,” he added.
