On the occasion of International Women’s Day, a total of 28 women have been selected for the prestigious Nari Shakti Puruskar 2020 and 2021. These women will receive the award today on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
President Ram Nath Kovind today conferred these women with Nari Shakti Puruskars.
For Nari Shakti Puruskar 2020, artisans Jaya Muthu and Tejamma from Tamil Nadu have been jointly selected for their massive work in Toda embroidery, while Arti Rana of Uttar Pradesh will get the award under the Handloom Weaver & Teacher domain.
Ever since they were in school, both Jaya Muthu (56) and Tejamma (66) have been creating shawls and garments with the intricate Toda embroidery.
Similarly Padma Yangchan of Ladakh has won the prestigious award for reviving the lost cuisine and clothing in the Leh region.
For 2021, Anshul Malhotra of Himachal Pradesh has been selected under Weaver domain.
‘Nari Shakti Puruskar’ is an initiative of the Ministry of Women and Child Development to acknowledge the exceptional contribution made by individuals and institutions, to celebrate women as game changers and catalyst of positive change in the society.
