India’s largest firm Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL) has something new to offer!
RIL is here with R|Elan™ EcoGold with CiCLO® – a new fabric technology that has a unique chemistry enabling activation of biomimetic biodegradation process.
R|Elan™ EcoGold with CiCLO® fabric is designed to reduce persistence of textile waste in landfills and other related conditions.
Importantly, R|Elan™ range of fabrics from RIL offer multiple possibilities with infused technologies that bring about special and lasting benefits in the garment for the consumer.
R|Elan™ EcoGold with CiCLO technology enables microbes living in the environment to break down the materials and convert them into basic elements like carbon dioxide, water, minerals, etc. just like they break down natural fibres.
Notably, the chemistry used to make the product is proven to be safe for use in sustainable textiles by OEKO-TEX ECO PASSPORT.
A delighted Gunjan Sharma, CMO – Polyester Division, RIL, said “R|Elan™ EcoGold with CiCLO® will help fight issue of textile waste, conserve environment and at the same time satisfy the consumer needs of style and sustainability. We are using one of the leading CiCLO® technologies of Intrinsic Advanced Materials that makes R|Elan™ EcoGold-based fabrics to degrade under specific conditions, thus reducing the persistence of textile accumulation in landfills.”
Elated over association with RIL, Alastair Drew, Intrinsic Advanced Materials, avers “Together, we will make a meaningful impact, one step at a time. R|Elan™ EcoGold will help apparel retailers globally by giving them access to eco-friendly fibres that can be used to make garments that will meet the needs of conscious consumers.”
Similarly, to enable sustainable fashion, RIL’s R|Elan™ GreenGold fabric too has been catching attention.
R|Elan™ GreenGold is made from 100 per cent post-consumer used PET bottles, collected through more than 100 bottle collection centres spread across India. This is in line with RIL’s commitment towards recycling only 100 per cent used PET bottles and avoiding the use of virgin PET bottles in the manufacturing process.
Technically superior, it’s a super fine staple fibre (0.9 denier) for manufacturing finer yarn counts (40s-100s). Additionally, increased fibre strength leads to higher yarn strength, with uniform dyeing performance enabling better fabric quality.
Also, there’s possibility of adding functionality such as moisture management, anti-microbial, thermal insulation, bio-enhancement in addition to the possibility of pre-coloured (dope-dyed) fibres in 40+ shades, thus reducing the need for wet dyeing in subsequent processes.
This eco-sensitive fabric that offers traceability is demanded and bought by some of the most renowned brands across the globe after stringent audits.
Through a comprehensive Hub Excellence Partnership (HEP) programme across global textile hubs, Reliance has been able to establish a strong network of more than 50 high-quality value chain partners to create relevant fabrics, including eco-sensitive R|Elan™ GreenGold fabric that can be showcased to brands and retailers.
On the collaboration with Reliance and R|Elan™ GreenGold, SM Shofiqul Hoq, General Manager, NR Group, Bangladesh, said “At NR Group, our efforts have always been to create eco-friendly, sustainable products. R|Elan™ GreenGold has been a perfect choice for us to produce sustainable yarns that have superior technical properties, apart from being highly eco-friendly. The introduction of the same in our product portfolio has been a key move for us towards creating impactful solutions for sustainable brand programmes.”
