E-commerce giant Amazon has doubled cumulative export target of ‘Made in India’ goods from micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to US $ 20 billion under its global selling programme.
This step will also help the Indian apparel exporter, as in 2021, Amazon saw 82 per cent growth in the apparel category exported from India and the top-selling export categories under the programme were textiles, leather, etc.
In a statement, the company said that in 2020, Amazon had pledged to facilitate US $ 10 billion in cumulative exports from India by 2025 through the programme. The company says that exporters from India are on track to surpass US $ 5 billion in cumulative exports.
Amit Agarwal, Senior Vice President, Amazon, said “The programme took about three years to enable the first US $ 1 billion exports, while the last US $ 2 billion (exports) have come in just 17 months. We are excited to build a strong foundation for MSMEs to realise their export potential, help them become globally competitive and contribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India an export powerhouse.”
To help Indian sellers sell on Amazon’s 18 international markets, the global selling programme in India was launched in 2015 and currently it has over 1 lakh exporters across the various product categories.
