Indian Government has urged world retail giant Walmart to focus and promote Khadi and handloom and handicrafts.
While substantiating on the above, Nitin Gadkari, Union MSME Minister, said that Walmart would also benefit by promoting such products.
It is important to mention here that many leading Indian brands, retailers and e-commerce giants are already promoting Khadi-based various products.
Addressing a webinar, the Minister said, “India is producing very good Khadi denim and its quality is as per the international standards. It will be a different thing for Walmart also.”
Requesting Walmart to give opportunity to Khadi Gram Udyog, he further added that it will create more commercial opportunities for Walmart also.
Sourcing a large variety of products from India, including apparels, home furnishings, etc, Walmart is also focusing a lot on its vendors’ developments.
The Walmart Vriddhi Supplier Development Programme is also one such initiative.
Creating opportunities for MSMEs to sell into Walmart’s supply chains or the open marketplace, Walmart Vriddhi’s first all-digital e-institute will initially be opened to MSMEs in Panipat, Sonipat and Kundli – the hubs known for different kinds of textile products.
