Textile weavers are concerned about the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) being implemented in textile machines at a time when the textile industry is booming in Diamond City and rising steadily. The imported machinery is probably going to be impacted by the BIS implementation.
The Federation of Gujarat Weavers Welfare Association (FOGWWA) has asked the Union Textile Ministry to delay the introduction of BIS in textile machines until March 2027. FOGWWA President Ashok Jirawala made the presentation to Union Textile Minister Giriraj Singh in New Delhi on Wednesday.
The rapid growth of the textile industry nationwide is mainly fueled by advanced, high-speed machinery imported from other countries. At present, no domestic company manufactures such state-of-the-art machines, Jirawala noted in his written appeal.
He further mentioned that although some domestic manufacturers have tried to produce these machines, their efforts have been completely unsuccessful. As a result, the industry must depend on imported machinery. He warned that if the BIS regulations on machinery are enforced now, it will obstruct the growth of the textile sector and cause substantial losses for industrialists.
FOGWWA also argued that the implementation of these standards would negatively affect exports, employment, and the industry as a whole in the current situation.
