India has emerged as a new market in the global retail scenario with the country catching the attention of the world‘s biggest and most important international trade platform for interior décor, gift items, jewellery, fashion accessories, the Ambiente 2019, slated to happen in February in Frankfurt, Germany.
Europe’s mega exposition has officially announced India as its partner country for next year. India will take over the baton from Netherlands which was the partner country at the Frankfurt Messe this year.
“With its population of over 1.3 billion, India has an incomparable diversity, a rich culture and also a tradition of art and craft. It’s also among our absolute top countries in terms of exhibitors. I’m confident that its presentation will be a real highlight at Ambiente 2019,” said Detlef Braun, Member of the Executive Board of Messe Frankfurt.
India takes pride in its vast pool of master weavers and artisans. With an aim to draw attention to these artisans and promote handicraft exports, the Ministry of Textiles together with Messe Frankfurt India has unveiled the India Design Concepts on the lines of “Future is Handmade”.
Jaipur-based Designer Ayush Kasliwal and Bengaluru-based Sandeep Sangaru have been nominated to design the India pavilion and the café respectively. Additional spaces have been awarded to the government to present the scope and various perspectives. The themes and design concepts will be curated by Sunil Sethi, President, Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI).
A design arena on the theme of ‘Timeless and Handmade’ will be curated by Kasliwal. It will be organised in 2 parts covering – the first section will celebrate everyday crafted objects, some of which are authentic, timeless originals and the second will showcase crafted objects that have evolved to respond to today’s expectations and relevant to an international audience. Sangaru will design the Café concept based on the theme “Starry Nights’.
The other arena which has been accorded to the government to present the Indian design perspectives will be based on the themes of Crafts Forward, Crafts & Perspectives, and Crafts & Industry.
Messe Frankfurt is a highly respected trade fair which has over 50,000 trade visitors and participants from over 50 countries. As a top participant every year, over 400 Indian manufacturers present Indian workmanship at the global fair. With India being the partner country for 2019 edition, the worldwide consumer goods sector has its eyes set on the future potential of the Rs.23,029 crores export market.
