A good news has come for almost 45 million people employed in the embroidery sector of India as a unique wellness programme aimed at the overall development of the workers has been launched by the Ministry of Textiles.
The plan was announced by AjayTamta, Minister of State for Textiles, at an event organised in New Delhi on March 19, 2018. The event was appreciated by the participants who are confident of bringing positive transformation in the Indian embroidery industry.
HKL Magu, Chairman of Apparel Exporters Promotion Council (AEPC) and Sudhir Dhingra, Chairman, Orient Craft Ltd. were among the major dignitaries present at the event.
Notably, the ‘EMBiQ Wellness’ is a comprehensive programme that covers key aspects such as lifestyle changes, nutrition, yoga and exercises, which can be followed easily to overcome the health issues faced by the workers.
Further, an expert panel has also been commissioned by Embroidery Intelligence Quotient (EMBiQ) to evaluate the working conditions and associated health risks of all departments of the apparel industry.
It is pertinent to mention here that embroidery in India includes various styles that vary by region and clothing styles, and also on the basis of fabric texture, design and stitch. A lot of apparel manufacturers use embroidery as a value-addition tool in their garment product. However, despite its rich history Embroidery in India is still not capitalising on the potential it possesses due to the lack of training and knowledge.
To address the challenges, this programme has been launched. “EMBiQ is aimed to empower the apparel industry to offer them Power of Knowledge by inculcating technical and management education,” explains Vikas Kapoor, Co-founder of EMBiQ Technovations, which eyes at making computerised embroidery the way forward for India.
