JUKI Corporation, a leading Japanese sewing technology provider, has recently shipped its first ‘Made in India’ sewing machines.
The machines, part of the DDL-7000A Series, which includes direct-drive, single-needle, lockstitch models, were manufactured at JUKI’s new facility in a suburb of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India.
The plant, covering an area of approximately 6,000 sqm, became operational in June this year as part of JUKI India Pvt. Ltd., the company’s Indian subsidiary.
Notably, the decision to establish a manufacturing unit in India aligns with JUKI’s strategy of reconstructing its manufacturing systems to address the risks of supply chain disruptions, as outlined in its “Medium-term Management Plan – Growth & Transformation Plan 2025,” which was initiated in 2023.
In recent years, the demand for industrial sewing machines has surged in factories across South Asia, including India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and other regions in the Middle East and Africa. To meet the needs of these growing markets, JUKI aims to enhance its manufacturing capabilities by commencing production at its new facility in India.
With the successful launch of its Indian manufacturing unit, JUKI has expanded its production footprint, adding to its existing facilities in Japan, China, and Vietnam.
