Textile industry professionals R. Pothiraj, Dhivagar, and Raj Kumar have won the first ever InnoTex 2018 awards that recognize innovation for textile and garment manufacturing industry. An initiative of Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI), the awards are backed by the Northern India Textile Research Association (NITRA) as the knowledge partner.
Suresh Prabhu, Minister of Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation presented the awards to the winners.
Jury Members for the awards included Shekhar Agarwal, Vice Chairman, RSWM Limited; Bharat Bhushan Modi, VP, (Weaving), D’Décor Home Fabrics; Neelabh Dalmia, Director, GHCL and Prof. R.S. Rengasamy, Department of Textile Technology, IIT Delhi
Innovation applications were sought in the field of design, method, process, product and cost in ginning, spinning, weaving, knitting, processing, garmenting and technical textiles from all over India and abroad as well. Total 10 innovations were shortlisted after two rounds of evaluation.
R.Pothiraj of VKS Textiles, Coimbatore received the first prize for his Innovation on ‘32% Reduction in Energy Consumption in Running Airjet Looms’.
“I focused in six different areas and one of the most important points was use of low-pressure compressor, sources from Japan. The compressors normally available in India gives 360 (cubic feet per minute) CPM while the compressors used by me gives 440 CPM.” – Pothiraj, VKS Textiles
“In the process of knitted fabric, spandex miss plating is a major issue. To outcome this, he used a ceramic guide but quality issues were still there. And finally fixing a hook in lycra guide these quality issues were also resolved.” Dhivagar, Maintenance Officer, Pallavaa Group Erode and winner of ‘Zero Defect of Spandex Miss Plating in Knitted Fabric’.
Raj Kumar, Director, Nantex Machineries, Gurgaon got third prize for ‘Computerised Vertical Embroidery Machine.’ With lot of R&D, Raj Kumar invented the world’s first ever Vertical Computerized Embroidery Machine, which does lengthwise (along with grain line of fabric) embroidery, instead of widthwise. This machine occupies very less space, includes low maintenance, is easy to use, and employs fewer people compared to conventional machine. The company has many installations of these machines too.
