On 28th September, Kitex Group, the Kerala-based textile conglomerate, initiated the construction of its second fully integrated fibre-to-apparel manufacturing hub in Telangana. This follows the commencement of their first project at Kakatiya Mega Textile Park (KMTP) in Warangal four months prior. The foundation stone for the second cluster, located in Seetharampur, Rangaredd, was laid, and upon completion, it will stretch an impressive 1.2 kilometers, set to eventually expand to 3.6 kilometers, making it the world’s longest integrated manufacturing facility under one roof. The ambitious plan is to finalise the first factory by September 2024 and secure a Guinness record.
Kitex, the world’s second-largest manufacturer of infant wear, is investing Rs. 1,500 crore in this colossal project, which is expected to generate employment for over 36,000 individuals. By 2025, the plant is projected to have the capacity to produce 1.8 million pieces per day.
During the inaugural ceremony, Minister for Industries KT Rama Rao, along with ministerial colleagues P Sabitha Indra Reddy and P Mahender Reddy, participated in the event. Kitex had previously signed a MoU with the Telangana government in 2021, committing to an investment of Rs. 2,406 crore in the state. Sabu M. Jacob, chairman of Kitex, conveyed his contentment, highlighting the government’s amicable approach, and expressed openness to increasing the budget up to Rs. 4,000 crore in the state.
