Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi laid the foundation stones for two major projects in Keonjhar district, including a textile park to be developed with an investment of Rs 100 crore (US $ 11.03 million).
The proposed textile park is expected to generate employment for nearly 1,200 people, with a substantial proportion of the jobs likely to benefit women. The facility will be developed over seven acres, and Hindalco Industries is set to establish a garment manufacturing unit within the park.
According to official estimates, the unit is projected to produce around 2.4 million garments annually once it becomes operational.
Referring to the Odisha Textile Conclave (O-TEX) held in Bhubaneswar in July last year, the Chief Minister stated that 33 investment agreements worth Rs 7,800 crore (US $ 860 million) had been signed during the event. He said these agreements had the potential to create around 53,000 jobs across the State.
Majhi further stated that the government was working towards developing a network of textile and apparel parks in districts including Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Bolangir, Ganjam, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur, with the objective of strengthening Odisha’s footprint in the textile sector and boosting employment opportunities.
