A group of interstate cybercriminals who had defrauded Paul Oswal a renowned industrialist and CEO of Vardhman Group, a global textile company, of Rs. 7 crore, were busted by Punjab Police on Sunday. According to Ludhiana Police Commissioner Kuldeep Singh Chahal, Rs. 5.25 crore has been seized from two cyber criminals who have been apprehended.
He claimed that seven more members of the group had been located and that searches were underway to apprehend them. The nine members of the gang were all from West Bengal and Assam.
Oswal was deceived by scammers who took out Rs. 7 crore from the industrialist’s numerous bank accounts. One of them identified himself as a CBI agent, threatened the businessman with a digital arrest, and produced a fictitious arrest warrant, according to the police.
After receiving Oswal’s complaint, the police cyber cell opened a case and claimed to have resolved it in 48 hours. The police added that the culprits were identified as being residents of Guwahati in Assam.
