In its continual efforts to focus on promoting Khadi-based garments, various initiatives have been taken by Assam.
Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of the State, has urged the people to use Khadi garments as much as possible and make it more popular. The CM has also urged Assam Khadi and Village Industries Board to study the modalities of other States like Gujarat to make khadi more viable and profitable.
As a part of Government’s activities to promote Khadi, the CM also distributed Khadi shirts and stoles amongst the Grade-IV employees of the State Government.
Assam will work to make a separate brand of Khadi produced in the state. The CM said, “Khadi can play a key role in building an Aatmanirbhar Bharat.”
UG Brahama, Minister for Handloom, Textile and Sericulture; Dr. Kamala Kalita, Chairman of Khadi and Village Industries Board and other senior officials were present on this occasion.
Notably, Assam, a leading state of North East Region, has the strength of handloom and Khadi production.
