The US import of cotton trousers has reached US $ 12.04 billion in 2021, according to OTEXA, as consumer markets have started reviving.
The cotton trouser imports have grown by over 32.24 per cent in 2021 as compared to 2020. The imports have also crossed pre-pandemic values when USA’s cotton trouser imports value US $ 11.80 billion.
The strong revival of the trousers’ market translates into the export revenues fetched by the major shippers to the USA. Bangladesh continues to be the top shipper of cotton trousers to USA that clocked US $ 2.57 billion export value, noting 34 per cent Y-o-Y growth.
The growth of Bangladesh is phenomenal as it has surpassed its 2019’s figures (US $ 2.33 billion) in the US market.
Vietnam stayed at the second spot with US $ 1.98 billion worth of cotton trouser shipment in the US market during 2021, noting 15.90 per cent Y-o-Y growth.
China has slipped to third position in 2021 from its top position back in 2019, despite 35.60 per cent Y-o-Y growth in 2021.
China’s cotton trouser exports in 2021 valued US $ 1.69 billion, while the shipment values in 2019 were US $ 2.36 billion. Consequently, China’s share has reduced to just 14 per cent in 2021 from 20 per cent two years ago.
Mexico (US $ 920.14 million), Pakistan (US $ 868.43 million), Cambodia (US $ 625.48 million) and Indonesia (US $ 610.15 million) have also put robust show in their cotton trouser exports to USA in 2021 and noted growth on Y-o-Y basis besides surpassing their respective 2019 export figures in the category.
India stands at 8th position in the tally and has grown by over 66 per cent in 2021 on Y-o-Y basis to clock US $ 365.83 million from its cotton trouser shipment to USA. The country also went past its 2019’s export values – US $ 325.59 million.
