In New Delhi, Union Minister Giriraj Singh assumed official control of the Ministry of Textiles. In the presence of Minister of State Pabitra Margherita, Singh was given the responsibility by former Union Minister of Textiles Piyush Goyal, now the Commerce & Industry Minister. Other high Ministry personnel were also present, including Rachna Shah, Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles.
On the occasion of assuming charge, Singh said, “Textiles sector has huge employment opportunities. The industry also holds a large share in terms of global exports as well.” He further asserted that the textile industry is also linked to the farmers and there will be efforts under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take the industry forward.
In his capacity as Minister of State, Pabitra Margherita also assumed leadership of the Ministry of Textiles in the presence of Giriraj Singh and Piyush Goyal. Elected from the Margherita parliamentary seat in Assam, Margherita is a member of the Rajya Sabha.
Sudhir Sekhri, Chairman AEPC congratulates Piyush Goyal and Giriraj Singh, on their assumption of charge in their respective Ministries. For the new Minister of Textiles, he said, “AEPC team congratulates Giriraj Singh for taking over reins in the Textiles Ministry. His rich experience and visionary approach will drive the textiles sector to greater heights.”
He further requested the Government to consider a new version of the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for MMF fabrics, MMF garments and Trims and embellishments with lower investment threshold to enable smaller units to participate. Further, Interest Equalization Scheme on Pre and Post-Shipment rupee export credit may be extended for further two years.
