Google has launched its artificial intelligence-powered virtual try-on feature in India, allowing users to preview how clothing items would look on them before making a purchase. The tech major confirmed the expansion on Wednesday, stating that consumers will now see a “try it on” icon across Google surfaces where apparel products appear.
The tool, part of Google’s broader Shopping Graph ecosystem, enables users to try on billions of clothing items listed on the platform. It is accessible through AI Mode, Google Shopping, product listings on Google Images, and other locations where apparel products are displayed.
To use the feature, shoppers can tap the “try it on” button on eligible products. They will then be prompted to upload a photo of themselves, after which Google’s underlying AI model will generate an image showing how the garment would appear on their body.
According to the company, the tool is powered by a custom fashion-focused image generation model designed to understand human anatomy as well as how different fabrics—including cotton, wool and polyester—fold, stretch and drape across various body types.
The platform also lets users browse through previous looks, save preferred styles and share them via messaging or social media. Google said the feature is aimed at helping shoppers make more confident purchase decisions and reducing uncertainty around fit and appearance.
