Shradha Kapoor, daughter of Delhi-based apparel exporter Rajiv Kapoor (Affordable Exports), has achieved a milestone. She has got enrolled for PhD from prestigious Durham University, UK.
Notably, Shradha, Bachelor from Pearl University and Amity University and Master in Management from University of Warwick, has focused on the apparel sector for her research in PhD.
Her topic for research is, “The role of Tier-1 suppliers in an apparel and clothing supply chain industry and to particularly focus on the loss caused due to the made-to-order stock wastage and how the Tier-1 suppliers can cope up with these losses.”
Talking to Apparel Resources Shradha shared, “From day one,I had clarity that I didn’t want to become a designer or start my label and become an entrepreneur; instead I wanted to focus on the operational part of the supply chain, and so I opted to go for deep research.”
Shradha strongly believes that the challenge of stocksgot highlighted due to COVID-19, but otherwise also it’s been a big problem for the supply chain – be it delay in shipments or other unexpected problems; that’s why she chose this topic for research.
With undying passion for studies since her childhood, Shradha is ultimately aiming to become a professor and a consultant for fashion companies as she strongly believes in knowledge sharing.
“From day one, I have seen my family business of apparel export, and so I know how things take place in this business and the areas that require improvement. My research will help the industry,” she says.
Shradha, who is just 23, faced lot of challenges to get herself enrolled for PhD as most of the professors (guide for research) have thrust on having the work experience of a research scholar, while she only had the experience of an internship with Karoline York and Ritu Kumar.
“Various reports of prestigious research and consultancy firms also say that now age is just a number and with the support of my father I have good exposure to working. PhD is a herculean task and it requires endless studies,” she says.
Shradha, who has also done the Entrepreneurship in Emerging Economies course from EDx (Harvard University), is also going to present her research idea in the prestigious Production and Operations Management Society (POMS) conference, US.
