French premium apparel brand Lacoste is gearing up for a major expansion in India, with plans to open approximately 50 stores across the country in the next five years. The move is part of Lacoste’s strategy to tap into the thriving Indian retail market and venture into new cities. Lacoste currently boasts 53 points of sale in India, including seven digital marketplaces.
Marcus Meyer, Lacoste’s Asia Pacific CEO, expressed optimism about India’s potential as an emerging market, stating, “India is one of the fastest emerging and interesting markets.” The brand operates in 17 cities at present and aims to extend its reach to about 29-30 cities in collaboration with its partner.
In addition to expanding its geographical footprint, Lacoste plans to increase the size of its stores to accommodate a wider range of products, with new stores spanning approximately 140 to 150 square meters, up from the current 100 square meters.
Lacoste’s growth strategy also includes bolstering its online presence. Currently collaborating with six multi-brand e-commerce platforms in India, the brand intends to explore additional online marketplaces while maintaining a strong focus on fashion.
