As a major move to boost the handloom and textile sector in Assam, the Government will be setting up an integrated textile park in the state at Naharkatia in Dibrugarh district. The ARTFED Park will be developed under a National Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks, launched in 2005 and will be located near the Namphake village. Involving an investment of Rs. 49.17 crore, the park would create approximately 2,800 direct and 4,200 indirect employment opportunities in the state.
The state has been allotted a duration of 24 months to complete the project after receiving the first instalment. Arrangements would be done for the marketing of the finished products from the textile park itself. Pranati Phukan, State Minister for Cultural Affairs announced the setting up of the first silk testing laboratory in Guwahati in near future.
