Odisha may get two new garment factories in the coming months as the State Government has approved projects for the same.
Chennai-based Ambattur Fashions is all set to set up an apparel manufacturing unit at Chandaka in Khorda district against an investment of Rs. 51 crore. The facility will produce men’s and womenswear.
The committee has approved factory of Wild Lotus Fashions at the Chhatabar Industrial Estate, District Khorda against an investment of Rs. 52.62 crore. This factory is expected to generate employment opportunities for over 560 persons.
Wild Lotus Fashions already has a unit at Chhatabar in Khurda district.
These and a few other projects of various industries got clearance in a meeting of the State Level Single Window Clearance Authority (SLSWCA). Suresh Chandra Mahapatra, Chief Secretary of Odisha, chaired the meeting.
The State Government’s primary focus has been on the employment-intensive sectors like apparel manufacturing which employs a large number of workers in a single unit. It will also help the state to arrange jobs for the locals within the state. Currently, thousands of Odia people are working in the garment factories of other states.
In 2018, more than 15 Indian textile and apparel companies have shown interest to invest over Rs. 550 crore in Odisha and create around 18,000 jobs. But nothing has materialised so far as the state has very few factories as far as organised and large scale garment manufacturing operations are concerned.
