Acting on the request of the apparel manufacturers, the Karnataka State Government has accepted their demand to allow work with 50 per cent capacity.
Earlier the State Government had imposed a state-wide lockdown and ordered apparel manufacturing units to be shut.
The State Government has issued an addendum in this regard and said that all industries/industrial establishments/production units are permitted to operate adhering to COVID-19 appropriate behaviour. However, garment manufacturing units will operate with 50 per cent of its workforce strictly adhering to COVID-19 appropriate behaviour.
It also added that the movement of staff shall be allowed by producing valid ID/authorisation issued by concerned industries/industrial establishment.
It is pertinent to mention that Bengaluru’s apparel industry had urged Government to allow operating with 50 per cent capacity while AEPC had requested to allow work with 70 per cent capacity.
Notably, Bengaluru alone offers employment to around 8 lakh workers in apparel manufacturing industry.
