E-commerce giant Amazon India recently shared an email with its sellers underlining that it is mandatory for them to disclose the ‘country of origin’ of new and existing product listings by 10 August.
The company also warned the sellers on its platform that if they fail to comply, they might face enforcement action, including suspension of their listings.
The email also highlighted that ‘country of origin’ will be introduced as a mandatory attribute from 21 July.
It is important to mention here that Amazon India has taken the step at a time when the Government is negotiating with e-commerce companies to ensure that all products listed on their apps and websites carry the ‘country of origin’ tags.
The e-tailer’s move is part of India’s strategy to curb foreign imports, specifically from China.
Besides, Amazon India has also asked sellers to add the importers’ contact information in case the products are from outside the country.
The company has over 5 lakh sellers in India, and claims to have more than 5 crore unique product listings on its platform.
