The global authority on wool, The Woolmark Company, has launched an all new Merino wool Fall/Winter 2019 collection in collaboration with Péro, which is now available to buy at Good Earth stores across India.
The collection uses the world’s best Merino wool from Australia before travelling to Kullu, where the handweavers of Woolmark licensee Bhuttico bring Péro’s designs to life.
Showcasing different points along the supply chain has allowed Péro designer Aneeth Arora to narrow the gaps between places, people, nature and crafts.
Merino wool has long been a fibre of choice for Aneeth Arora, whose relationship with The Woolmark Company was strengthened in 2013 when Péro was a regional finalist for the prestigious International Woolmark Prize.
100% natural, renewable and biodegradable, the fibre’s durability, versatility and trans-seasonality makes Merino wool garments ideal for India’s varied climate.
During the retail launch, the Good Earth store was transformed into a Himachal-inspired space, with Kullu baskets and traditional handicrafts decorating the space.
Besides, a live handloom installation allowed guests to discover the world of striking handweaving traditions. The evening also saw an exclusive performance by a contemporary band led by artist Stefan Kaye, who worked their hands through the looms to create soulful tunes.
Also seen at the Good Earth store was a larger-than-life wool heart installation, which became a focal point for all the guests present. This contained handmade miniature hearts fashioned exclusively for the event using the pieces of deadstock wool fabric from Pero’s earlier collections.
Dilip Gianchandani, The Woolmark Company Country Manager India, said “We are very pleased to introduce Australian Merino Wool as the ultimate natural fibre grown year-round. With the help of our collaborations and projects we try to bring out the natural, renewable and biodegradable aspects of Merino wool to broader spectators.”
He also said “With increasing consumer awareness surrounding supply chain integrity and traceability we are sure that through our efforts, the story of Australian Merino wool will hold truer than ever. Our collaboration with Péro at Good Earth beautifully showcases Indian craftsmanship using Australian Merino wool and we hope to successfully be a part of more such associations in the future.”
Aneeth Arora, Founder & Designer of Péro, explains, “We were inspired by the traditional textiles of Kullu and its artisans and worked in harmony to create a collection in monochrome colours with tone-on-tone textures. This collaboration will present an amalgamation of Péro’s takes on Bhuttico’s traditional weaves with Merino wool bringing them together – woven in one story which is truly
aligned with what The Woolmark Company is all about and we cannot wait for everyone to see the collection at Good Earth that pays homage to our handloom industry.”
Anita Lal, Founder & Creative Director, Good Earth further elaborated on the association, “Working with crafts and culture lies at the heart of Good Earth’s design philosophy and that’s the innate synergy that we share with Péro. We have always believed in showcasing home-grown designers who work with sustainable clothing and have a mindful approach to fashion styling. The Péro FW’19 Merino Wool collection exemplifies the coming together of creative minds to highlight re-imagine Indian crafts and we are happy to launch this exclusively across our stores.”
The Woolmark Company X Péro collection was previously showcased at the sustainable day of Lakmé Fashion Week in Mumbai and is now ready to be explored, exclusively at the Good Earth store.
Perfect for winter layering, this collection of jackets, dresses, trousers and overlays in fine Merino wool handwoven in Kullu, comes in a bright colour palette, featuring bold woven patterns and oversized floral appliqué motifs highlighted with Péro’s signature beadwork and hand-embroideries.
