To get a fair picture of the industry and formulation policy accordingly, Ministry of Textiles (MoT) is conducting a nationwide survey of textile and apparel manufacturing clusters. But surveyors are facing difficulties to get this information and they are themselves in doubt about the exact information. Apparel Resource has seen the copy of this 3-page long survey form containing 16 detailed questions.
An officer involved in the survey process shared, “Ministry is trying to get maximum information about each and every small or big cluster/hub. Like in Delhi, we have identified more than 12 such areas where garment manufacturing activities take place. Though most of them are unorganised or are at a small level, but we will collect details as we wish to do better planning regarding further fund allocations and for overall improvement of the industry.”
On the other hand, this survey has become like a headache for the surveyors, including the field staff of Textiles Committee, as the exhaustive details required in the survey is humongous. It is not easy to get the required information since many associations don’t have the exact details. “Apart from comprehensive information, we have to write four pages on the cluster profile with a focus on ‘manpower’ and ‘income’ which is mandatory. It is not logical,” shared a field staff of Textiles Committee who is struggling to gather this information.
