The textile industry could become a part of Indian Army’s prestigious project as it looks forward to supplying new improved better quality uniform to Indian soldiers.
Master General Sustenance (MGS), a wing of Indian Army responsible for procurement of the supplies required by the Indian Army, is set to invite an RFP for procurement of Improved Comb Dress (Digital Camouflage Pattern).
A meeting of various industry stakeholders also took place in this regard.
The eligibility criteria, reportedly, include capability of manufacturing nearly 3,00,000 sets of uniform every month–also including the capability of in-house spinning, weaving, wet-processing, dyeing, printing and garmenting under one roof or one GST/PAN no.
The procurement process of the new improved combat uniform is scheduled to commence and the RFP is under finalisation.
The contract quantity is envisaged to be approximately 1.1 lakh at a value of approximately Rs. 300 crore.

The new uniform has been designed keeping in mind the troop comfort, ergonomics and superior look and has a better fabric than the older version. It has blend of 80:20 polyester, cotton ripstop weave and the digital camouflage is VAT dyed for better life and lasting colour fastness.
The fabric is of 190 GSM, which makes it lighter and more breathable.
The new combat dress was unveiled six months back and consists of Jacket Combat (upper tunic), Trouser Combat & Cap FS. The project has been fructified by outsourcing design and development through NIFT.
