In Punjab, 143 employees of a textile company tested positive for COVID-19.
The Health Department of the state confirmed it had collected around 350 samples from the company based at Chounth village in Samana block and found 143 employees to be infected.
The employees, who tested positive, have been isolated at the factory itself.
Dr. Harish Malhotra, The Patiala Civil Surgeon, said the factory has been since converted into a containment zone. “We again urge all factory owners to isolate symptomatic employees and make them undergo the COVID-19 test to curb the surge in infections.”
According to media reports, several units in the area have brought labour from neighbouring states without properly following the process.
It is being said that despite repeated reminders, factory owners did not follow the Government guidelines and were hiding suspected cases.
It is also pertinent to mention here that just 3 weeks back, a spinning unit in this region had found 67 of its workers being coronavirus positive.
