Supporting the Government’s nationwide initiative of cleanliness drive under ‘Swachhta Hi Sewa’ campaign, Indian apparel industry has also come forward for the initiative. The Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) organized one such programme, which saw the participation of Textile Minister Smriti Irani besides leading apparel exporters and students of Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC), at Okhla (Delhi). Smriti Irani did Shramdaan by cleaning garbage and motivated others to make ‘cleanliness’ as a habit.
“Participation of AEPC and the apparel industry is a clear message not only to this country but to the world that India had resolved to build a clean and healthy nation,” she said. HKL Magu, Chairman, AEPC administered ‘Swachhta pledge’ to heads of garment industry associations, industry members and the people present there. Harish Ahuja, MD, Shahi Exports; PMS Uppal, MD, Pee Empro Exports; Virender Uppal, MD, Richa Global; GS Madan, MD, Madan Trading Company; Lalit Thukral, President, Noida Apparel Export Cluster (NAEC); Narinder Chugh, Million Exporter; Anil Verma, Director, Monika Garments and some more exporters were present on this occasion.
HKL Magu told Apparel Resources that all offices of AEPC, ATDC Centres across India will run cleanliness drive for the next 15 days. “We have urged the exporters to support this initiative and spread awareness about cleanliness. Many garment export factories are adopting nearby areas to make it clean,” he shared.
During the event, ATDC students and the local youth were trying to take selfies with Smriti Irani. The Minister asked them to leave mobile and to do Shramdaan. She also instructed AEPC officials to make sure that the street where the Shramdaan took place, gets cleaned completely.
