The Karnataka Garment Workers Union (KOOGU) has made serious allegations against few garment factories of Bengaluru.
The Union has said that employers across garment industry have unilaterally decided to pay only 10-day lockdown wages in May ‘21. Burden of lockdown has been entirely transferred to workers.
The management, across various factories, are compelling workers to take loans in lieu of lockdown wages, burdening them even more during these tough times.
The Union also said that management of a top level exporter in Bengaluru responded to union representatives and came forward to provide ration to COVID-infected workers as some migrant workers were starving due to lack of ration.
Migrant workers were impacted more severely; in this regard, workers of an export house’s hostel facilities, Bengaluru, went on agitation and refused to work unless full lockdown wages are paid.
The Union is also exploring the possibility of approaching different stakeholders to step in for support.
