India’s number one apparel export house Shahi Exports and Apparel, Made-Ups & Home furnishing Sector Skill Council (AMHSSC) recently conducted a skill training programme for around hundred women.
The initiative was supported by Haldiram Snacks, India’s one of the most popular brands for snacks and sweets.
The skill training programme was specially designed for economically backward and disadvantaged women. The training was imparted for the sewing machine operators and self-employed tailor job roles, for a period of three months.
On successful completion of the training programme, the participants were not only given certificates, but were also offered jobs by Shahi Exports, thus providing them with a means of livelihood in addition to boosting their confidence.
In a statement, Dr. Roopak Vasishtha, CEO and DG, AMHSSC, said “We are committed to empower and equip women with employable skills so that they can secure better livelihood opportunities. Our aim is to reach out to economically and educationally backward women and to make them a bigger part of the skilling eco-system and to help them secure employment.”
He also added that “the CSR projects can greatly contribute towards the process of women empowerment in India, as the way towards holistic empowerment of Indian women goes through skilling and by providing them means of a job or a business so that they can ensure a constant source of revenue.”
Notably, the CSR activities have been a catalyst towards empowering and uplifting women in the society. The Government of India has been proactively encouraging CSR-funded skill development activities to promote skilling, reskilling and up-skilling on a massive scale.
