India’s man-made fibre (MMF) exports rose 6.5% in 2024–25, while technical textiles exports grew by more than 15%, underscoring the country’s strengthening position in a fast-expanding global market, according to Pabitra Margherita, Union Minister of State for Textiles and External Affairs.
Speaking at the Manmade and Technical Textiles Export Promotion Council (MATEXIL)’s Export Award Function for 2023–24 and 2024–25 in Mumbai, the minister said India’s high-quality products were reinforcing the country’s reputation as a reliable global partner. He noted that worldwide demand for textiles—especially high-performance, functional and sustainable materials—had reached record levels, adding that India was “responding to this shift with strength and confidence”.
Margherita highlighted MMF and technical textiles as being central to the global transition towards sustainable and advanced materials. MMF alone now accounts for an estimated 70–75% of the global fibre market, reflecting a major shift in consumer preferences and industrial applications.
He also pointed to several government-led initiatives aimed at accelerating India’s competitiveness, including the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme and the National Technical Textiles Mission. These programmes, he said, were bolstering capacity across the entire value chain. Under the PLI scheme for textiles, 17 newly approved companies have committed investments totalling Rs. 2,374 crore (US $ 267 million).
