
A truck loaded with garments worth Rs. 50 lakh has been abducted by miscreants on way from Tirupur at Perungalathur near Chennai, India. The container left Tirupur on February 6.
The lorry driver failed to lodge an FIR at Peerkankaranai police station as a police official refused to file the complaint, asking him to approach Sriperambathur police station where he was thrown by kidnappers. The truck is yet to be traced. This was revealed by the Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) in a statement.

It may be mentioned here that Tirupur is a major textile and knitwear hub of India, contributing to 90 per cent of total cotton knitwear exports from the country. The textile industry provides employment to over six lakh people and contributed garment exports from Tirupur (India) increased by 16.3 per cent to Rs. 23,050 crore in 2015-16 as against Rs. 20,730 crore in the previous fiscal year.
