Finally the Government has allowed the export of PPE medical coveralls for COVID-19 subject to quantitative restriction of 5 million (50 lakh) units per month.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) today (Monday) issued two notifications in this regard.
PPE medical coveralls for Covidppe-19 (Serial no. 207 A and HS codes 392690, 621790, 630790, 901890) are now allowed to export.
Only applications for export of ‘PPE medical coveralls for COVID-19’, filled from 1st to 3rd day of each month, will be considered for the quota of that month. And approvals/allocations will be done by the 10th of every month.
Exporters may apply online through DGFT’s ECOM system for export authorisations, and validity of the export license will be for 3 months only.
The Government can allow exports of other medical textile products like N-95 masks in the coming weeks.

The firm applying should be a manufacturer of PPE coveralls. It also adds that it is necessary for the firm to get a certificate from the Chartered Engineer that the fabrics used in the PPE medical coverall are manufactured in India.

India is making around 8 lakh PPE per day and has huge capacity for the same, and so the industry is of the view that the limit set is very less. Over the past 2 months, the industry has been repeatedly demanding to allow the export of PPE.

Dr. A. Sakthivel, Chairman, Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), thanked the Government for this and said that this opens the entire global market for domestic players who were fast enough to seize this opportunity of producing and supplying PPE kits as the world struggles to control coronavirus pandemic.
