Already facing firm challenges in their core markets, due to the Euro zone crisis and the weakening US economy, apparel exporters fear they will face tough competition from India due to a possible FTA between EU and India. Adding further to their woes, the trade ban that was imposed on Myanmar by the US and EU has already been withdrawn. Myanmar being an energy-rich country will prove to be another competitor for Bangladesh. BGMEA believes that it is time, the industry addresses issues such as infrastructure development and power and gas supply in order to be prepared for any challenge that comes their way.
