Lakmé Fashion Week unveils ‘The Real Cut’ to boost diamond jewellery design talent

Lakmé Fashion Week “THE REAL CUT”

In a first of its kind association, The Diamond Producers Association teamed with Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2019, for “The Real Cut” show that featured six winners of the jewellery design contest along with three top Indian designers.

The program was disclosed earlier this year and was open to diamond jewellery designers who have been associated with leading jewellery brands from across the country, have been in the business or have been practising since the past three to eight years.

Showing an impressive response, ‘The Real Cut’ received over 80 applications from talented jewellery designers across the country. Applicants demonstrated a combination of innovative designs techniques and eloquently elaborate methods to conceptualize their original diamond jewellery collections.

The concluding round took place on 21st January 2019 at Amadeus, NCPA in Mumbai, and saw six winners being handpicked by an esteemed panel of judges belonging to diverse backgrounds of the jewellery and fashion fraternity. The jury comprised of Richa Singh – Managing Director at Diamond Producers Association, Monica Shah- Fashion Designer (Jade), Rahul Vijay – Fashion Editor of Elle, Nisha JamVwal – Luxury Brand Consultant and Jaspreet Chandok – Vice President and Head of Fashion, IMG Reliance.

Shazia Motiwala of A. S. Motiwala, Bhavana Jhakia of Om Jewellers, Rupam Singhal of Orra, Akshita Garg of Chiripal Jewellers, C. Raghu of Kirtilals and Rajeshwary Singh of Senco, were named as the final winners “The Real Cut” programme.

Subsequent to this, the winners were given the opportunity to showcase their winning collections at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2019, with designer labels Rara Avis by Sonal Verma, Verandah by Anjali Patel Mehta and Saaksha & Kinni by Saaksha Bhat and Kinnari Kamat on Day 4 of the 5 day fashion gala.

I was excited by the diverse designs showcased by all the talented emerging Diamond jewellery designers from across India. Their trend-setting winning collections on the runway beautifully highlighted the fit of everyday wear diamond jewellery with contemporary outfits.” Richa Singh, Managing Director, Diamond Producers Association (DPA), said, adding, ““The Real Cut” is a disruptive platform, which will surely provide a starting point for these young turks.”
