Sportswear giant Reebok has unveiled its latest collaboration with Illumination and Universal Brand Development for Minions: The Rise of Gru collection. It celebrates the blockbuster franchise’s upcoming theatrical release slated for 2 July 2021.
To mark the launch, Reebok created a short film ‘Inside the Mind’ with Chris Hill, senior design manager for pop culture.
Through the film, Hill invites Minion fans and sneaker lovers into his office/basement toy room for a first-hand look at the footwear designs of the collection. The short film is available for anybody to watch via Reebok IGTV, Youtube and Reebok’s website.
Some of the most notable designs of the collection are: Minions x Reebok Question Mid ‘Gru’s Lab’ which has an imaginative modification of the historic Question Mid.
The outsole features silver/black glow-in-the-dark sticky ‘slime’ through two intake and outtake tubes and the rocket booster graphics underfoot provide excellent support.
The unpolished silver upper and a more-finished glossy chrome leather panel can be found at the heel above his signature ‘G’ logo stamped in place of the traditional Iverson ‘3’.
Other designs include Minions x Reebok Instapump Fury ‘Vicious 6’, Minions x Reebok Club C ‘Vicious 6’, Minions x Reebok Instapump Fury ‘Minions’ and Minions x Reebok Club C ‘Otto’.
Gru’s lab has been replicated in the form of elevated sneaker packaging that carries each of these Reebok creations.
Displayed on the box are hand-illustrated orthographic views of Gru’s childhood bedroom and top-secret lair riddled with Easter eggs from the forthcoming film and additional details that Minions, Iverson and Reebok fans will all enjoy.
The Reebok x Minions collection will be available starting tomorrow, i.e., 1 October at select Reebok stores, TataCliq, Veg Nonveg, Superkicks and Reebok’s website for a retail price of Rs. 3,999 onwards.
