The phase when the increase in production was achieved only by adding more number of machines is somewhat over; the industry is slowly realising that the same increase in production can also be achieved by using better technology.
FCI Group, a UK-based company producing formal jackets, bottoms, ladies top and dresses, is one such company looking at increasing the productivity through using better technology. Md. Abdul Hadee, Chief Operating Officer says, “We are not looking at any expansion at the moment but are looking at increasing the output through fully automated machines which helps us to reduce production time and enhance quality and save manpower and real estate cost.”

The Group which consists of four companies – FCI (BD) Ltd., Talisman Ltd., Alliance Stitches Ltd. and FCI Clothing Ltd. – are the pioneers in a wide range of soft-tailored and structured formal outerwear for world’s top brands, including M&S, Zara, Nike and Alexon. FCI was the first fully Nike compliant factory in Bangladesh and the first to produce Nike football jerseys. “Our success lies in four things – adopting latest technology, continuous and focused product development, effective fabric sourcing and sharp technical support with first-class teamwork,” says Abdul who feels that there are still a lot of opportunities for growth in Bangladesh in next few years as both China and India are concentrating more on their growing domestic markets so all the action in exports will be here.
