The House of Textiles, a venture by Kailpar Group, one of the largest importers of textiles for high fashion, caters to a discerning clientele across three distinct sectors: individual customers (B2C), designers seeking to elevate their creations (B2D) and established businesses (B2B).
“We recognised a gap in the market and strive to democratise international designs for Indian brands, ensuring accessibility without compromise,” stated Nishit Gupta, Director, The House of Textiles. Since joining the family business in 2014 and driving its digital transformation, Nishit said his design team has been crafting unique fabrics that blend global trends with local tastes.
Their product categories include fashion fabrics, knits, embroideries, printed fabrics, silks and more. The company imports these fabrics and maintains an inventory of more than 5 lakh metres, ready to meet diverse demands. Their collaborations extend to 25 exclusive manufacturing partners in China, allowing them to fulfil orders ranging from as little as 100-200 metres to substantial quantities of up to 25,000 metres.
In a freewheeling chat with Apparel Resources, Nishit reveals how The House of Textiles meets the evolving needs of its clients. Here are the edited excerpts.
AR: Can you detail the range of fabrics you offer?
NG: Whether you are looking for high couture fabric for your exclusive collection or stylish, high-quality materials for everyday fashion, we have got you covered. Our offerings include fashion fabrics that are perfect for creating stunning, high-fashion outfits that make a statement; embroideries that add a touch of elegance and sophistication to any design; knits that are comfortable and versatile, ideal for both casualwear and more refined outfits; and printed fabrics featuring unique and vibrant designs, allowing for creative expression in every piece. Our luxurious silks are perfect for creating timeless and elegant garments, while our rich, plush velvets add a touch of opulence to any design. Innovation is our lifeblood and we release new designs weekly to ensure our customers always stay ahead of the curve.
AR: Why the focus on high fashion?
NG: We work closely with our partners to create designs tailored specifically to Indian tastes and preferences. Importing from China allows us to maintain a competitive edge in terms of both quality and price. Our goal is not to compete with local fabrics but to offer premium designs that aren’t available elsewhere.
From the time I joined the company, I have worked to bring on board some of India’s top brands and designers, including Gaurav Gupta, Manish Malhotra, Rareism, Bestseller and others. We’re committed to keeping designs confidential, maintaining exclusivity and delivering quality that goes beyond expectations.
We have also started building a community where designers can connect and support one another. We’re also rolling out resources like tutorials and workshops to assist designers at every step of their journey. Our goal is to create long-term partnerships, helping designers craft unique and innovative designs that truly stand out.
Our meticulous three-step quality check process ensures that every metre of fabric meets our high standards and we offer customisation options to bring your unique visions to life.
When it comes to custom fabric dyeing, we offer a wide range of colours from our telephone shade card or Pantone palette. Whether you have a specific shade in mind or need some guidance, we ensure precise colour matching. Just let us know your preferred colour and we’ll tailor our dyeing process to achieve your exact needs with precision.
AR: What are your aspirations to expand globally?
NG: We haven’t fully ventured into that market just yet. At present, revenue from international clients makes up less than 3 per cent of our total earnings. The vast majority of our revenue is derived from domestic clients, reflecting our strong presence and focus within the Indian market. As we continue to grow and establish our brand, we aim to increase our international footprint and diversify our revenue streams.
AR: Since you source all your fabrics from China, how do you ensure efficiency and timely delivery without compromising on quality?
NG: In our textile operations, ensuring optimal efficiency and timely delivery, particularly in international sourcing, presents its challenges. We strive to reduce lead times, allowing brands to stay ahead in the fast-paced fashion world. We offer customisation options, maintain low minimum order quantities (MOQ) and keep ample stock.
Our dedicated team in China plays a crucial role in overseeing production to meet our stringent standards. They work closely with our network of 25 factories to monitor progress and address any issues promptly.
Back in India, once the fabrics arrive, we implement a meticulous three-step quality check process. This involves thorough inspections at various stages of handling and production, ensuring that each metre meets our quality benchmarks before it reaches our clients. This dual approach, combining proactive oversight in manufacturing with rigorous quality control locally, helps us maintain high standards while meeting delivery deadlines as closely as possible.
Moreover, our partners are selected based on their commitment to eco-friendly production methods, ethical labour practices and minimising environmental impact.
