It was exactly 2 months back that Apparel Resources reported about the closure of Orient Craft’s Ranchi operations.
It’s confirmed now that the leading apparel export house has closed both its units at Ranchi, thereby impacting the lives of at least 3,500 workers.
Highly placed sources of the company confirmed that both the units, producing mainly for M&S and GAP, are now closed. What’s more worrying is that the chances of these units resuming operations in the future are very remote.
Local media has also reported about the closure of the units.
The company had started its first unit here almost 3 years ago, with the second unit inaugurated only last year.
Less business owing to COVID-19 and non-clearance of state subsidy are being cited as the two main reasons for the closure of the units.
