The apparel manufacturing industry has lost one of its brightest stars. Sarbajit Ghose, Managing Director of Laguna Clothing and Member of the Board of Directors at CIEL Textile, passed away on 4th March 2025, following a sudden cardiac arrest in Bengaluru. His untimely departure has left a void that can never be filled.
In a deeply emotional conversation with Apparel Resources, Rajesh Kumar, CEO of Laguna Clothing and a close associate of Sarbajit, expressed his grief, “It’s an irreplaceable loss. Just yesterday, there was no sign of discomfort. I spent five hours with him, we had lunch together, and he was making plans for a factory visit. And now, he’s gone. It’s shocking and heartbreaking beyond words.”
In 2005, Sarbajit founded Laguna Clothing in India, marking a significant milestone for CIEL Textile. His entrepreneurial drive, commitment, and deep industry expertise played a key role in establishing the company’s presence in India. Under his visionary leadership, Laguna Clothing thrived, manufacturing premium shirts for esteemed menswear brands like Hugo Boss and Polo Ralph Lauren.
In 2013, Sarbajit was appointed CEO of Laguna Clothing, later assuming the role of Managing Director in 2019. That same year, he joined the Board of CIEL Textile, where he became instrumental in advancing the textile cluster’s strategic growth. With a keen strategic vision and an in-depth understanding of industry dynamics, he played a vital role in shaping the future of CIEL Textile.
In an official grievance message, CIEL Textile stated: “As a person, Serbie was truly unforgettable. He had a rare charisma that naturally drew people in and a unique way of engaging with others—thoughtful, witty, and always refreshingly direct. Whether in a boardroom, a factory, or a casual conversation, he had an innate ability to connect with people at all levels, make them feel valued, and challenge them to think differently. He inspired those around him to be their best—not just as professionals but as individuals. His presence, guidance, and sense of humor will be deeply missed.”
The Apparel Resources team extends its deepest condolences to Sarbajit Ghose’s family and the entire CIEL Textile team during this incredibly difficult time. His legacy will continue to shine in the industry he helped shape.
