A 16-member arbitration panel has been established by the Federation of Surat Trade and Textile Associations (FOSTTA), with retired Delhi judge Surinder Aggarwal serving as its chair. This recently formed organisation seeks to effectively settle commercial conflicts in the textile industry.
The panel will concentrate on resolving disputes over money and quality that arise between stakeholders in the textile sector.
Payment scams and delays are common problems for textile traders in Surat, and the only options available to disputants are to file police complaints or seek legal action through the courts.
The arbitration body’s membership consists of chartered accountants, economists, lawyers, and FOSTTA directors, all of whom contribute a variety of knowledge to the dispute settlement process.
The panel would assist resentful parties in settling their disagreements through dialogue, FOSTTA President Kailash Hakim said, highlighting the useful advantages of the new approach. The deserving individual won’t have to lose, and they’ll save time.
Any ongoing disagreements after the panel’s decision can only be directly contested in the High Court, avoiding the sessions court level, according to Chairperson Aggarwal. The efficiency of the new arbitration system is increased by this expedited appeals procedure.
