Karnataka’s Minister for Sugar, Textiles and Agricultural Marketing, Shivanand Patil, held a senior officials meeting at Vikasa Soudha regarding the proposed textile park in Hosadurga, Chitradurga district.
The Minister stated that only legitimate investors should be selected for this project, specifying that if a company is simply after government subsidies and does not establish or operate units, then they should be eliminated from the proposals. He insisted that the priority must be given to those with a serious industrialist mindset for the establishment of the textile project.
Hosadurga MLA, Goolappa Gowdappa Govindappa, was also present at the meeting and stated that the goal is to deliver a successful textile park, regardless of the company selected. Minister Patil understood this and reiterated that officials should identify the correct players to pursue the project expeditiously.
He reviewed the work that has been done so far, which includes acquiring 30 acres of land at Aralihalli village for industrial purposes. Karnataka State Textile Infrastructure Development Corporation (KSTIDC) has already disbursed Rs. 23.30 lakh (US $ 27,000) to the owners, KSTIDC MD Prakash stated.
Officials stressed the need for development in Hosadurga, one of the backward taluks in Karnataka according to the Dr. D.M. Nanjundappa Committee Report, where the population of 30,000 has almost 11,000 unemployed youth. Therefore, the textile park will enhance employment and the socio-economic condition of the area.
